Cinderella’s Wedding Train

To tell you the truth, I was a little cranky and not entirely in the mood. We’d spent the day doing our taxes and moving furniture and looking at photos of when we were thinner.

But you never know what you’ll encounter on “The Path,” so when you head out for the daily constitutional, no matter your head space, you just schlep the camera and stomp along.

Plus, what are you going to do when you see an entire wedding train full of happy celebrants bearing down on you at 14 mph in golf carts?

cinderellas-wedding-train1

You hunker down on the curb and start taking pictures, that’s what you do.

cinderellas-wedding-train2

This bodes well for them, don’t you think? Honestly, they both looked like they were having a blast.

cinderellas-wedding-train3

Plus, they were surrounded by exuberant friends driving vehicles called “E-Z-Go.” That has to be a good sign.

cinderellas-wedding-train4

They were wavers. And smilers.

Also good.

cinderellas-wedding-train5

It wasn’t until they landed at the beach stairs, though, that we realized we were privileged to have accidentally shown up at Cinderalla’s ACTUAL wedding.

We saw the whole shoe thing go down.

The exchange was swift and discreet.

And may I just say… that dress?

Dang.

cinderellas-wedding-train7

The other lesser accessories appeared according to custom…

cinderellas-wedding-train8

… and I’m betting when asked which one she wanted, the response was, “His.”

Or not. Maybe she”s a much sweeter little girl than I ever was.

Let’s go with that. She said, “Pink, please.”

I loved the 6 minutes we were part of this wedding party.

There was an attention to details that leaned towards “We care about the event,” but…

cinderellas-wedding-train10

… there was a pragmatic and unfussy approach to the footwear involved.

You know our sentiment about fussy footwear. In the words of our friend Dushka, “I love gorgeous heels, but I love my feet more.”

So totally Cinderalla-ish….

cinderellas-wedding-train12

The party migrated happily down the stairs, and it felt unseemly to traipse down after them, so we blessed them and quietly said “Fare well.”

But about those glass slippers left at the top of the stairs? So many stories, so little time…

    Hi Rick and Kathy,

This is Karen the on-site wedding ceremony coordinator for the HMB Golf Links, thank you for being there that day! You have captured photos that we never seem to get as we are riding along in the golf carts! I appreciate you sharing with William, Erin and their wedding party.

Hope to see you again on “the path”.

Karen, it really was our delight. Since we live just up the hill and walk the path almost every day, chances are good that we will bump in to one another again… soon!

    Hi Rick and Kathy,
What an amazing job you did capturing the bridal party’s adventure down “The Path”. We were having so much fun! I remember seeing you sitting on the side of the path clicking away. I thought to myself, “Wow, she’s taking a lot of pictures of us”. I now understand why, what a great story you put together, we are all forever grateful that we ran into you.

I knew when the sun peeked out of the sky for 10 min during the vows (the only 10 min of the day I might add) that Cinderella and Prince Charming would be a-ok! 🙂 Someone was looking down at them and blessing them on their recent I do’s. I was just happy to be a part of their special day.

    Wishing you all the best,
    Jacque,
aka the 3rd and last bridesmaid to reply 🙂

      Hi Jaque!

Thanks for your kind words and for leaving your comments. Yeah… we’re always aware that it must be a bit freaky for people when these strangers start rapid fire shooting photos of them unannounced, but we just trust that eventually, they might enjoy the end results 🙂 For us, the fun part is putting the story together after the fact. We don’t really know anyone else who is doing this or what to call it, so for now, we’re describing it as “storyscaping.” Just as landscapers take rocks, twigs, dirt, water and a bordered space and make a landscape out of it, we take a moment, photos, a sense of humor and decent writing and craft a story out of it. It’s a hobby that’s turned into an art form 🙂

You were all beautiful… so happy, calm, engaged and attractive: a perfect blend of “raw ingredients” for one of our favorite storyscapes so far!

      Cheers, R&K

Rick and Kathy – What an amazing thing you have done! As the “father of the bride,” I am just so grateful that individuals such as yourselves go way, way, way out of your way to bring true “stranger generosity” to this world. You must be an “awesome couple,” yourselves. Thank you, thank you.

    Dear Wedding Party,

Thanks for all the wonderful responses. You were SUCH an irresistible and contagious delight coming down that path… just glad Rick had gently insisted that yes, yes… it WAS important to have the camera along, again…
Thanks for the immediate and unhesitating inclusion in your festivities.

    Best wishes to all,
    Rick and Kathy

  8. Erin (aka Cinderella)

Hello! What a wonderful surprise to see your beautiful shots of our wedding party. The story brought a smile to my face and helped me relive the unbelievable day that we had on Saturday. I certainly felt like Cinderella. I am so happy that you happened to be on “The Path” when we made our journey to the beach. Thank you for capturing this special moment and for the offer to send the high res photos. I’ll be in touch via email. Thanks again!

    Hi Rick and Kathy,

I’m the practical gal with the black flats on…my husband Jacob was the best man and our 2 little girls were the flower girls. The little girl probably said she wanted the pink umbrella. 🙂 The kids were most excited about riding in the golf carts.

Thank you both so much for taking the time to take these beautiful photos and for taking the extra time to share them with us. I didn’t know if anyone else could tell from looking at the wedding party, but everyone was truly happy and it was an amazing day. Thank you again for helping us capture these moments. 🙂

    Rick and Kathy,

Thanks so much for sharing the pictures. I was one of the happy members of the wedding party, having way too much fun driving the cart. I’m also the husband of the gal in flats (she’s the sensible one in the clan). It was an unbelievable time… and little surprise moments, such as your website makes it even more amazing.

    Thanks!

See what happens when your on a impromtu trudge on The Path with your camera…how blessed. 🙂

  12. Amanda

Cheers to Rick and Kathy for the fun pictures and the accompanying story! I am another of the bridesmaids lucky enough to be part of the ceremonies on The Path. I was with her the day she picked out the dress and a “Dang” was uttered that day as well! We all agree with you about Cinderella and her Prince living happily ever after… Thanks for helping capture these memories for us! Best wishes, Amanda

Excellent pictures Kas. I’m sure they would appreciate a few free photos of their wedding. Hired photographers can be expensive. They look like a great couple.

  15. Marian

    Hi,
Then you must be the Kathy of rickandkathy.com.
I met you at the Cinderella Wedding just for an instant on the pathway.
    I love your wedding photos.
I really appreciate being able to see what you photographed.
I truly NEVER leave my camera at home.
Thank you for being so kind as to quickly tell me how I could ‘fix’ my mistake
Mia (my poodle) and I witnessed this Beautiful Bride and Groom’s Ceremony from the hillside near the Hotel.
Again thank you for ‘disrupting the Universe with KINDNESS’ !
Rick, you are lucky and probably very kind yourself.
    MJ

PS We are from Nebraska and are visiting for a few days.

Marian, thanks for your sweet comment! It WAS a beautiful bridal party, so we can only imagine how the ceremony must have rolled out…

BTW, we’re sending you an email with a couple of the super quick snaps we took of Mia. Since you’re obviously a poodle fan, you might want to check out a recent post as well: https://rickandkathy.com/2010/03/lulu-and-oliver-visit-the-beach/. We met them again at Pelican Point last week, but this time they were dry and fluffy! Another Lulu and Oliver post coming up later this week.

Meanwhile, enjoy your stay, despite the soggy weather…

      Cheers, Rick and Kathy
